The Inagua Islands collectively has an area of 649 square miles, are the third largest and southernmost family islands in the Bahamas. Bahamian and Non-Bahamian entrepreneurs are invited to visit our beautiful islands and make an assessment of what we have to offer.
An international investor wishing to do business in the Inaguas should submit to The Bahamas Investment Authority a proposal providing the following information: type of business, proposed location, proposed star-up date, employment projections, environmental impact, management/personnel requirement, concessions sought, financial arrangements for proposed project, a bank reference and a Local Representative.
Businesses in the Bahamas benefit from preferential trade arrangements of the Caribbean Basin Initiative and the Contonou agreement. Permanent Residence is granted to major international investors and owners of residences valued at $250,000 or more. Investors may acquire publicly owned lands for approved developments.
Manufacturing and processing industries, that are particularly desirable are:
Bird-watching touristic developments
Marinas
Small resort developments catering to ecotourism
High-tech agro industries
Mariculture and aquaculture
Pharmaceuticals
Light manufacturing for export
Scuba diving operations
Ship repair facilities
Bone fishing lodges
Container ports
Luxury condominiums and second home developments
The Bahamian Government stipulates that a foreign entrepreneur must introduce, invest in and operate for a minimum of five years an enterprise that must contribute significantly to the economy of the island on which it is located, and employ at least ten Bahamians.
The Inaguan labour force is congenial, and willing to work in harmony with employers. Employee turnover is extremely low. Workers take their jobs seriously, and are highly capable. Salary levels and social benefits are comparable with those of other Bahamian islands and other countries.
Unfortunately, our population is small; therefore, investors who require a large labour force would have to recruit workers from neighboring Bahamian islands.
