The Inaguas consist of two Islands, Great and Little Inagua, two cays, Sheep and Roller Cay and Sail Rock, an exceptionally high rock located off the southeast point of Great Inagua.
The Islands are conveniently situated lying approximately four hundred and eighty-nine miles southeast of Miami, seventy miles north of Hispaniola and sandwiched between Cuba, fifty miles to the southwest and the Turks and Caicos Islands thirty miles due east. Great Inagua lies almost in the Windward Passage, one of the busiest shipping lanes in the Western Hemisphere.
Geologically, the Islands rest atop two flat "platforms" which rise from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. The larger southern platform supports Great Inagua. Little Inagua is located on the northern smaller platform. Between the two islands is the Inagua passage, seven miles wide and extremely deep.
